U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem was rushed to a Washington, D.C. hospital by ambulance on June 17 after suffering an allergic reaction, according to Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin. The hospitalization was conducted “out of an abundance of caution,” and Noem is reported to be alert and recovering.
As Secretary, 53‑year‑old Noem oversees a department of roughly 260,000 employees responsible for immigration enforcement, airport security, cybersecurity, disaster response, and other vital functions. The incident reportedly occurred in Washington, where secret service agents have since been stationed outside the hospital.
Noem was appointed by President Trump in January and quickly positioned as a prominent face of the administration’s immigration and deportation agenda. Earlier this month, she accompanied ICE on enforcement operations in California and led a controversial press conference where Senator Alex Padilla was forcibly removed during questioning. On Monday, she toured Fort Detrick’s biohazard labs alongside Senator Rand Paul and Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
